Three things I've learned
shipping AI products.
Taxonomy before model.
Most AI product failures are labeling failures. Spend the first two weeks on intent taxonomy, edge cases, and failure modes — not prompt engineering.
Ship in shadow mode.
Run every new system in parallel, silently, against real traffic before anyone sees it. Automation gains compound — but so do early mistakes.
Own the boring parts.
The LLM is 20% of an AI product. The other 80% is routing, fallbacks, console UX, and operator tooling. That's where trust is earned.
